Al-Marasil is a classic reference in the science of hadith criticism by Ibn Abi Hatim Ar Razi , one of the great hadith scholars - the son of the Abu Hatim Ar Razi.

The book deals with inqita' (breaks in the chain of transmission).

It records which narrators narrated mursal reports, which narrators did not hear from certain shuyukh , and whether a narrator met or heard from the person he reports from.

Much of the book preserves the rulings of Abu Hatim and Abu Zur'a Ar Razi, along with sayings of earlier scholars of Hadith .

This makes it a primary source for judging whether a chain is connected (muttasil) or broken (munqati'), and a standard reference for students and researchers in takhrij, hadith grading, and the study of narrators.

Later scholars such as al-'Ala'i and Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani relied heavily on it in their own works on the subject.
